Excavator

Komatsu PC300 LC excavatorExcavators are classified under heavy equipment and are used to:

  • Dig trenches
  • Dig ponds and lakes
  • Remove tree stumps
  • Construct ditches
  • Demolish existing structures
  • Removal trees including root balls
  • Moving and removing soil and debris from property
  • Lifting heavy objects including pipes, boulders and other heavy pieces specific to the scope of work being preformed.

The two main sections that make up an excavator are the undercarriage and the cab. The undercarriage includes the tracks, frame for tracks and the final drives which house the hydraulic motor and gearings used to move the tracks independently giving the excavator a zero turn radius. The cab includes the operators' area, counterweights, engine and fuel/hydraulic tanks. The cab section is attached to the undercarriage with a center pin which allows the excavator to move 360 degrees with ease. A boom is attached to the cab and is the "arm" of the excavator. Attached to the end of the boom is the stick and a bucket is attached to the end of the stick. The stick provides the power required to push the bucket into the ground. The stick adjusts allowing the operator to reach out or to dig deep. There are various sizes and shapes of buckets, each performing specific functions, which can be attached to the stick, depending on the scope of work needed to be completed.
